Hvorfor:
Der kan være dele af brugernes dagligdag og behov som er vanskelige at observere. Cultural probes kan være en metode til at få adgang til brugernes oplevelser, værdier og følelser. Hvordan:
Lav en pakke med engangskamera, postkort med spørgsmål, beskrivelser af en række små opgaver og bed brugerne tage et billede af sit yndlingssted, en situation hvor de kunne tænke sig at have et bibliotekstilbud ved hånden og lignende.
Læg også en instruktion af, hvad man forventer brugerne skal gøre i pakken. Del den ud til en række brugere og giv dem en uge eller to til at løse opgaverne. Når pakkerne kommer tilbage bør man afsætte god til at til at analysere og omsætte brugernes input. Med denne metode kan inputtet have mere karakter af inspiration frem for information.
Cases:
Biblioteket i oplevelsen - oplevelsen i biblioteket - en opgave fra Danmarks Biblioteksskole 2007. Der laves en brugerinddragende undersøgelse, hvor oplevelsens elementer i børnebiblioteksrummet og hos de besøgende udforskes. Gennem undersøgelsen indsamledes inspiration til, hvordan voksenbiblioteket kan facilitere flere oplevelser i indretningen af det fysiske rum. Der fokuseres på oplevelser indenfor det æstetiske (sanselige, kropslige) område og oplevelser med oprindelse i leg. Projektet lod sig inspirere af cultural probes-metoden og lod brugerne tage billeder af gode og dårlige oplevelser i det fysiske bibliotek.
Mobile Probes: I projektet Mobile Probes undersøges det, hvordan man kan lave en digital udgave af en cultural probe ved at udnytte mobilteknologi. Hovedbiblioteket i Århus deltager i projektet. Lånernes forventninger og krav til det hybride bibliotek: I dette DEFF-projekt brugte man cultural probes til at afdække Statsbibliotekets låneres brug af forskellige informationsressourcer.
